Hyper Realistic Sculpture OM Final

I've  completed the hair insertion as well as tweaking OM's skin pigmentation. It's been at times a slow process but that's what often happens when doing artwork, there is experimentation, mistakes and adjustments.
For the moment these are the pictures of OM finished. As I mentioned before, this model plus seven others will be part of a sculpture installation.

I thought it would to interesting to place OM and OW together, although this is unlikely how I will place them in my planned installation.
Anyways, I'm excited to get back to the other models and push this project further along .
To my fellow Canadians have a great Canada Day Weekend and to the rest of the world have a great weekend as well, We'll talk soon.

Hair Punching Silicone Sculpture Part 4

This past week the studio's been extremely busy with a number of projects needing to be finished by the end of the month .So, I've been stealing away a bit of time here and there to further the hair punching process on OM.

As you can see, I've started the styling of the hair as well as inserting body hair where needed chest, nose(yuk!) and ears. The hair colour has been adjusted as well adding some blonde to the mix. The colouring before was too even and I find most people gray in patches and or streaks. I chose blonde hair because it worked well with his skin colouration.

The sculpture still requires further tweaking on the hair as well as paint touch up on the skin in spots. The model is close to finish in terms of this phase of the project. I had mentioned before in earlier posts that this model plus seven others are part of an installation that's being planned.
Next time, I hope to show images of the finished model. Talk to you soon.

Porcelain Child Post #4

After several posts  in a row on OM,I thought it would be nice for a little change. I  recently had the Porcelain Child fired and it fired successfully. Anyways, here are the latest images.

Although this piece is unglazed, I still find porcelain an extremely smooth body to handle even after firing which reminds me a little bit of the feel of marble prior to final polish.
This is my second attempt at using this material and still trying to figure out the best way to work with it.
And now that I have the finished object, I not sure at this time what the next step should be. Need to experiment further.
Next post, I hope to have further news on OM and other projects as well, till then have a good weekend.

Hair Punching Hyper Realistic Sculpture Part 3

Here are some new images of OM. I was able to find some time over the weekend to further the hair punching.

As you can see in the above picture the hair line still needs adjustment as well as hair colouration and length.

I still have a fair bit work to do on just the hair alone but it's still exciting for me to see the piece at this point .
I also find this part a bit of a surprise because of how much the hair has changed the appearance of the sculpture so dramatically.
Later this week, I hoping to have further updates on OM and other projects.

Hair Punching Hyper Realistic Sculpture Part 2

I have some new images of OM. The hair process is going pretty well so far with numerous changes as I apply more and more hair.

In the above photo shows while I'm punching hair into the sculpture I'm also cutting it as well. This process will give me time to think not only about hair treatment but the overall presentation.

I find it important for myself that the hair punching like the other aspects(modeling, painting etc) are not strictly about execution but about keeping options open to other possibilities.
Anyways, things are pretty busy in the studio right now but I'll try to push this piece a little further over the weekend.
We'll see.

Hair Punching Silicone Sculpture

I'm back again with some new updates on OM.  I had a very busy weekend which included attending my nephew's wedding on Saturday as well as starting the process of hair insertion or punching on OM.
I actually find this part fun to do, which seems a bit of a strange thing to say because it's a process in which I have to punch thousands of strands of hair into the sculpture. Perhaps, the fun element is actually a realization that the sculpture process isn't far from it's conclusion.

Although, this picture has a rather comic quality at the moment, this image illustrates part of the hair punching process.
You actually start from the neck and work your way up and you always have the hair on any part longer than what you need.

The above image shows the special needles I use for this process. It's fairly easy once you get use to the hand motion and the time it takes to insert but also to remove hair.

The hair punching like the painting requires adjustments throughout the process.
Anyways, I'll have further updates on this project plus other news soon.

Painting Silicone Sculpture Final

Finally, I've finished the painting of OM . Here are the latest images. After my last post a couple of days ago the painting started to come together and I was able to finish it on Friday.
Still, there will be some further tweaking to do on the painting side while I'll be working on the other aspects of this sculpture. We'll see how things go.

Now,  the next stage is hair insertion. This particular part like the painting takes time to plan and execute .
I don't have a particular plan as yet but it's likely the hair punching will start sometime next week.
I'll post images soon.

Painting Silicone Sculpture Part #3

Sorry, I'm late with this posting but the week has been incredibly busy in the studio. Still, I wanted to show some updated photos of OM(old man). This particular painting project, I have to admit is slow because more time is being spent adjusting the colour and getting it to work with this individual piece.
Anyways,here are the latest images.
In the above picture, the sculpture still needs more adjustment to the complexion.
The skin still needs to be little more more blotchy while still reducing the contrast.  Painting is still evolving and progressing albeit slow.
Next time,I hope to have further news on OM and other projects.

Silicone Sculpture in Review

I've been very busy this week working on various moulding projects so there hasn't been much progress on the Old Man bust. I'm still reducing the colour in spots but still haven't arrived at the right skin tone. I'm close.

I thought instead for this post to show some pictures of the Old Woman in process.

This of course is only a few images of what was a six week process. This sculpture with the potentially seven others will form the basis of an installation I'm in the process of planning.
Next time,I'm hoping to have some new images of OM.
